Under general supervision, is assigned to the Economic Development Department’s International Business Division to assist with business development. Will perform general administrative functions for the purpose of developing a working knowledge in this area of municipal government. This position typically performs routine administrative tasks, basic IT, provides technical assistance, as well as research and report drafting. Exercises no supervision.


  • Assists with scheduling and planning of department meetings.
  • Collects and organizes research data on trade flows, FDI flows, targeted industries, and companies as directed by staff.
  • May assist with performing analyses and prepare data for reports.
  • May assist in the coordination, administration and/or monitoring of specific programs.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.


  • Must be enrolled in graduate or doctorate-level degree program accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. for one year from date of hire.


  • Fluency in Spanish, German, Japanese, French, and/or Portuguese is highly desirable.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing statistical and office software.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to gather information for reports.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to learn pertinent Federal, State, and local laws and and ordinances.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
