City of San Antonio Economic Development

The Culture of Business

Café Commerce is one step closer to reality, as the City of San Antonio seeks proposals from organizations and individuals interested in implementing and managing this innovative entrepreneurship and business resource center.  The City has committed up to $1 million dollars in funding and approximately 10,000 square feet at the San Antonio Central Library for the initiative.

“The mission of Café Commerce is to create the kind of entrepreneurial ecosystem in San Antonio where people with creative ideas can get access to phenomenal resources and launch vibrant small businesses,” explains San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro.

Along with their own individual approaches to this initiative, the City is asking respondents to include U.S. SourceLink and the Ice House Entrepreneurship Program within their implementation plans. Both programs were developed with support from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, a worldwide leader in entrepreneurship.

U.S. SourceLink facilitates collaboration and growth in communities by connecting small business owners and entrepreneurs with resources and information. It also facilitates collaboration between community partners, and provides rigorous analysis of resource requests to identify gaps and assist in making improvements.

The Ice House Entrepreneurship Program is a cutting edge entrepreneurial education system that focuses on what it means to have an “entrepreneurial mindset.”

The deadline to submit proposals is 2:00 p.m. on July 1, 2013.
