The Culture of Business
Recent moves by major California companies have brought attention to a thriving economy in San Antonio, Texas that continues to benefit new and expanding corporations, despite the nation’s slow economic recovery. PetCo, Capital Group, Sun Edison, Medtronic and InCube Labs all expanded their operations from California to the San Antonio market over the past three years. They identified various aspects of the city’s economic landscape that would complement their operations by allowing for affordable and productive growth in a city that Area Development Magazine recently named as one of the “Leading Locations for Economic and Job Growth.”
According to a 2012-2013 Economic Forecast and Industry Outlook Report, published by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, the California economy “will continue to heal but the process is comfortably long.” With realities of the Great Recession still impacting business in California, and states across the country, many corporate executives are looking to find new opportunities for their business expansion and are turning to cities like San Antonio, with stable, fast-growing economies, as the ideal counterpart to expand their operations.
Mario Hernandez, President of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation (SAEDF), notes that San Antonio’s availability of land and commercial property, friendly business environment, low cost and wide range of utilities and new energy and attractive tax base are all major factors that companies weigh when considering San Antonio as the location for business expansion.
“San Antonio is fortunate to have a diverse economy that continues to thrive despite global economic hardships,” says Hernandez, “but the community here has also worked diligently to create a progressive business environment that is conducive to corporate and industry growth and expansion.”
As we continue to see movement in cutting-edge fields such as information technology and information security, aerospace and aviation, biosciences and healthcare, and new energy, San Antonio is becoming an increasingly influential location for growth and development by providing ideal geographic, industry and economic positioning.
Representatives from the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation will have a contingency in Los Angeles during the month of August to visit with California business executives who are interested in expansion opportunities in San Antonio.
